After submitting various designs, the following was chosen: –
Futuristic, modern and an eye catching design.
The lower shape is not an easy one to manufacture due to the curves in the body in both directions.
It cannot be defined by dimensioning as per the usual manner. So it requires that we flatten the four sides and they are then cut by water or laser jet machines.
Sheet metal flanges are not possible here so we have the cut, roll to shape and bring the 4 sides together and fix in position with a weld along each corner.
The welding process will give us a solid base and the sheet metal is thicker in this area to allow for the welding process. The welds will be ground, dressed and finely polished to give a superb finish.
The upper portion is manufactured by the usual flanges overlapping bending and welding inside only. By being inside only the look of the machine will be improved and it will look completely different from the common vending machines.
This is the Top Assembly without the front screen and rear door. It is a common sheet metal assembly and attached by welding in the interior.
This is the Rear door assembly with 3 Abloy hinges which are common in vending machines. The latch is a new modern electronic opened with a card without touching the latch. After the card is presented in front of the latch the lock opens.
The front of the machine is a white acrylic sheet 8mm thick and will blend nicely with the 27” touchscreen which is the part presented to the user.
The payment method is a cashless module from VeriFone and is shown in this illustration.
This is the Thermal Printer which will deliver a receipt for the amount paid and the Gift Card selected.
The electricity is provided by the mains supply through this computer power supply.
The Power Supply feeds this top of the range Industrial PC. This is the heart of the system and has to be programmed to show the number of gift cards on the touchscreen.
The cooling is provided by two of these industrial fans, one on each side and the openings are two sets of louvers manufactured into the side panels.
Finally, we have the 27” Touchscreen and we are unsure if we should install a common one or an Industrial one. We need to get the clients feelings on this as there may be a considerable price difference.
On the rear is the common VESA bolt arrangement which is used to retain the monitor in position.

After discussions with the Hardware and Software Engineer he posed the following questions that require answering.
“Specification Requirement Document Part” covering the following things: –
- a. How the welcome screen should be?
- b. How things would be presented to the user?
- c. How user shall select the item?
- d. What if the item is not there?
- e. What if user want to undo the selection?
- f. The colour scheme etc.?
As per my experience you may require this document in order to develop the software.”
“As I mentioned this software shall probable involve Php, XHTML or ASP.Net and it has to access your database over the internet so I think development of such software shall be more appropriate if you develop it on your system and in-front of you; otherwise I develop software too.”
